Acting: Act 1
Make a healthy place for drama in your life. Wake up your imagination, knock the kinks out of your body and get comfortable in front of a group by exploring acting fundamentals in a supportive environment. In Acting 1, you'll discover the basic
building blocks of the acting process, including given circumstances, objective, obstacles and tactics. Cultivate awareness and flexibility while stretching your emotional wings. Bring it all together in scenework that will enliven and invigorate.
clown
Explore Clown technique through this
ongoing workshop for actors and clowns. Discover the clown within, or hone and refine your existing clown character. Students will utilize stagecraft and character development to enter this unique world. Cuomo’s singular palatte of techniques draws from Leqoc, Laban, Landau, Bogart, and his long time clown teacher David Shiner (creator and director of Cirque Du Soleil's Koza). Gain experience and facility with the individual dynamics needed to focus a clown nose, apply active stillness in a “take,” better communicate with audiences through comic timing and interactive street techniques, and create solo and small ensemble pieces. Students should come to the first class with a clown jacket and hat - pants, shirts and shoes are optional - and get ready for a raucous ride. Former students welcome.
acting for film
Though on-camera work, learn to translate the techniques of the actor to the medium of film, and access hands-on guidance in techniques that best focus the actor's work before a camera. For the experienced actor, the course will simplify or demystify the transition to film. For the novice, the class will be an opportunity to learn acting skills that most readily apply to film. All daily classroom work will be on-camera and viewed on a television monitor. Your work will be presented on a large screen at the final class.
